At 83, Carter is one of the oldest members of Congress. Her professional background spans the private sector, public policy, and both federal and military service. Early in her career, she worked across party lines to advance complex policy issues, from energy security to deficit reduction, collaborating with stakeholders on both sides of the aisle. Most recently, she worked at Dell Technologies, leading communication efforts for one of the area's largest employers.
